EVENTS

2004     • Visit to Slawatycze - Vickie and Chuck Block, Joshua Metnick.
2005     • Meeting of Slawatycze Landsmanschaft - Chicago.
2008     • Rededication of Jewish Cemetery in Slawatycze.
             • 1st Cleaning and clearing of Cemetery since 1939.
             • Erection of New Brick Entrance to Cemetery.
             • Above activities done in conjunction with:
                     FODZ - The Foundation For The Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland.
             • Return of the first of many Matzavot that had been taken from the Cemetery after the destruction of the Jewish Community.
2010     • Clearing of overgrowth of Cemetery under direction of FODZ.
2011     • Forum For Dialogue Among Nations conducts a first Four day “School of Dialogue” Workshop in Slawatycze High School.
2012     • First Clearing of overgrowth of Cemetery under the direction of The Nissenbaum Family Foundation.

                     Since 2012, The Nissenbaum Family Foundation has cleared the Cemetery at least once a year.
2013     • Creation of The David and Anna Dlugie Kliger Scholarship Fund in conjunction with The Forum For Dialogue Among Nations.                                     These scholarships are awarded annually.
2014     • First D&ADK Fund Scholarship awarded to Mariusz Sokolowski.
             • Grzegorz Kiec elected Mayor of Slawatycze.

                    Issues call to townspeople for return of Matzavot to Cemetery. Many are returned.
2015     • Second D&ADK Fund Scholarship awarded to Karol Glebocki.
             •  Dorota Szmydko-Kolejko and Leszek Kolejko purchase the Apelberg Mill and begin restoration work.
2016     • Forum For Dialogue Among Nations conducts a second Four day “School of Dialogue” Workshop

                    in Slawatycze High School. Funded by The Greene Family Fund.
             • Third D&ADK Fund Scholarship awarded to Ewa Kopel.
2017     • Fourth D&ADK Fund Scholarship awarded to Kamil Mrozowicz.
2018     • New fence erected along entire front of Cemetery (154 meters) by Slawatycze Landsmanschaft in conjunction with

                    The Nissenbaum Family Foundation.
            • Fifth D&ADK Fund Scholarship awarded to Darius Walerjanski.
             • Discussions begin with The Foundation For The Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland (FODZ) to extend The Chasidic

                    Route to Slawatycze thus making it the point furthest North on The Route.

            • Arek Misztal elected Mayor of Slawatycze.

2019    • Sixth D&ADK Fund Scholarship awarded to Andrzej Grzegorczyk.

            • Meeting and discussions with Mayor Misztal concerning support of projects honoring the memory and involvement of Slawatycze Jews
                    in the village and pursuing possible joint projects.

2020    • Seventh and Eighth D&ADK Fund Scholarships awarded to Marek Kolcon and Jacek Koszczan.

            • Canopy Placed over Matzavot in the Cemetery. This was funded by our Landsmanschaft and done in conjuction with The Apelberg Mill
                    (Leszek Kolejko and Dorota Szmydko-Kolejko).

            • Addition of "The Jewish History of Slawatycze" in Polish and English to the official Slawatycze Gmina (Municipality) Website. This was
                    done in conjuction with and by the suggestion of The Nissenbaum Foundation and the Municipality. The English version is also
                    accessible in the HISTORY tab of our website.

2021    • Ninth, Tenth, and Eleventh D&ADK Fund Scholarships awarded to:

                    Urszula Antosz-Rekucka, Agnieszka Pollak-Olszowska, and Marek Chmielewski.

            • Sign offs received from seven property owners including the Catholic Church who border the Jewish Cemetery granting permission
                    to continue adding new fencing to enclose and mark the entire cemetery.

            • Planting of 250 Daffodil Bulbs in front of the cemetery by volunteer friends living in Slawatycze.

                    This was done in conjunction with The Daffodil Project.

2022    • Village temporarily deemed a “Restricted Military Zone” due to Refugee Concerns from Belarus and Russian invasion of Ukraine.
            • Ban on travel and visits to Slawatycze lifted in late April.  During the ‘restrictions’ the Apelberg Mill was commandeered in order
                    to provide housing and shelter for a contingent of Polish Soldiers.  Official Opening of Mill temporarily postponed.

            • Slawatycze offers hospitality, shelter, and schooling for approximately Fifty Ukrainian woman and their children fleeing the war further

                    East.
            • Some funding provided for assisting the refugees by members of the Slawatycze Landsmanschaft.

            • Visit to Slawatycze in late April by Gary Borisy and Sally Casper (see Gallery and Descendants).

            • Cleanup work in Cemetery by Nissenbaum Foundation after a long hiatus due to Covid Pandemic.

            • Delay of various projects due to Covid Pandemic and war between Russia and Ukraine.
                    - Fencing 
                    - Cleanup of Cemetery 
                    - Artist Fellowship 
                    - Memorial Marker for Cemetery 
                    - Signage indicating locations of Jewish points of interest

2022-2023

            • Opening of Apelberg Mill​.

            • Projected Projects seeking funding:
                    - Completion of Cemetery Fence.
                    - Create Display Wall for recovered Matzavah.
                    - Memorial Marker memorializing the Jews murdered by German Soldiers in the Cemetery.
                            This will hopefully be in conjunction with The Village of Slawatycze, The Ringelblum Institute, and the Matzevah Foundation. 

                    - Signage marking the locations of the Synagogue, Mikva and Jewish area of village.

            • Creation of the Slawatycze Artist Fund Scholarship Stipend.
